FORNET Working Group on the CFSP and Crisis Management and Conflict Resolution FORNET partner responsible: Trans European Policy Studies Association (TEPSA) The role of the EU in its regional neighbourhood, especially in south-eastern Europe, the Mediterranean basis and the Baltic region, has grown in importance in the past few years. Given recent developments in security and defence policy, but also the repercussions of international developments after 11 September 2001, new demands and expectations might arise for the EU. The EU's role in the broader European context particularly after enlargement therefore needs further discussion and explanation. The working group concentrated on the EU's role in civilian crisis management and conflict resolution. The second meeting was held in Sofia, Bulgaria on the 1-2 October 2004.
